Al Leister

Born an Army brat, Al was inspired by his father’s service and followed in his footsteps by entering the US Army from their far-away home on duty in Venezuela. After basic training, he entered USMA Prep School and the next year joined the Class of 1969. Upon graduation, Al because a Ranger and spent his Army career in the Armor branch. He held many leadership positions as an Army officer, 12 years of which were in Germany during the Cold War. In retirement, he helped establish an Ethics and Leadership Program for high school students with the West Point Society of Columbia, SC which bears his name in memoriam. His favorite places to be were on the back porch with his wife at the lake or on a jet ski!
