Mine is a pre-West Point story and shows how little I knew about West Point. I’m from Long Island so my admission physical was done at Fort Jay on Governor’s Island, requiring a ferry ride. There were a number of future classmates there for the overnight stay. I met Bill Kyle from New Jersey and we hit it off right away. We hung out during our stay, and as we were heading home, we told each other “We’re going to be roommates when we get to The Point.”
I did not see him again until graduation day.

Ed, thanks. I also was at Ft Jay.
Was LTG Tom Rienzi influential in your branch choice?
Ed Quinn says
I met LTG Rienzi at Ft Monmouth after the branch straw poll – I did not know of him beforehand. Signal was chosen as a process of elimination. I spent AOT before firstie year with an Armored Cav Regiment in Amberg, Germany. I got to see engineers, artillery, armor, and infantry. None appealed to me, so Signal Corps it was. A good choice for me.

Thanks, Ed. I’ll never forget “wire power is fire power!”
